The Two Joseph, the Dreamers in the Holy Bible (One in the New Testament and the other in the Old Testament): Read and what's your view
There are two main Joseph, the dreamers in the Holy Bible:
(1) Joseph, the Carpenter (who is also the earthly father of Jesus Christ and the husband of Virgin Mary).
(2) Joseph, the Son of Jacob (Jacob is also known as Israel in the Holy Bible).
(1) The New Testament Joseph, the Carpenter received instructions from Angels of God through night dreams and he obeyed them totally (Joseph was an obedient man of God).
(A) The first dream had to do with explanations on how Virgin Mary whom he had never slept with before she got pregnant even if they were engaged to each other. And he was told by the angel of God to marry Mary which he did immediately after he woke up. Thus, Joseph the carpenter became the Father of Jesus Christ by obeying the angel of God's instruction to go ahead and marry Virgin Mary and he will always be remembered and mentioned as long as Jesus Christ and Virgin Mary are remembered. This is forever. Thank God for the life well spent of the obedient Joseph, the Carpenter.
According to Matthew 1: 18-24
'THIS WAS HOW THE BIRTH OF JESUS CHRIST TOOK PLACE. HIS MOTHER MARY WAS ENGAGED TO JOSEPH, BUT BEFORE THEY WERE MARRIED, SHE FOUND OUT THAT SHE WAS GOING TO HAVE A BABY BY THE HOLY SPIRIT. JOSEPH WAS A MAN WHO ALWAYS DID WHAT WAS RIGHT, BUT HE DID NOT WANT TO DISGRACE MARY PUBLICLY; SO HE MADE PLANS TO BREAK THE ENGAGEMENT PRIVATELY. WHILE HE WAS THINKING ABOUT THIS, AN ANGEL OF THE LORD APPEARED TO HIM IN A DREAM AND SAID,"JOSEPH, DESCENDANT OF DAVID, DO NOT BE AFRAID TO TAKE MARY TO BE YOUR WIFE. FOR IT IS BY THE HOLY SPIRIT THAT SHE HAS CONCEIVED. SHE WILL HAVE A SON, AND YOU WILL NAME HIM JESUS - BECAUSE HE WILL SAVE HIS PEOPLE FROM THEIR SINS." NOW ALL THIS HAPPENED IN ORDER TO MAKE WHAT THE LORD HAD SAID THROUGH THE PROPHET COME TRUE. "A VIRGIN WILL BECOME PREGNANT AND HAVE A SON, AND HE WILL BE CALLED IMMANUEL" (WHICH MEANS "GOD IS WITH US"). SO WHEN JOSEPH WOKE UP, HE MARRIED MARY, AS THE ANGEL OF THE LORD HAD TOLD HIM TO DO. BUT HE HAD NO SEXUAL RELATIONS WITH HER BEFORE SHE GAVE BIRTH TO HER SON. AND JOSEPH NAMED HIM JESUS.'
(B) The second dream had to do with an angel of God appearing to Joseph, the carpenter to warn him to quickly change his family's location because Jesus Christ's enemy, king Herod, had an active plan to kill his little baby Jesus Christ. He obeyed the angel of God without asking questions and eventually Jesus Christ grew up in this world and saved the world. Those he help to save includes the righteous that lived before him as they rose from the dead the very moment Jesus Christ died on the Cross of Calvary as an adult, then those that followed Him during Him life here on earth and those that accepted after His death and even those that accepts Him after now. This is forever. Thank God for the life well spent of the obedient Joseph, the Carpenter.
According to Matthew 2: 13-18
'AFTER THEY HAD LEFT, AN ANGEL OF THE LORD APPEARED IN A DREAM TO JOSEPH AND SAID, "HEROD WILL BE LOOKING FOR THE CHILD IN ORDER TO KILL HIM. SO GET UP, TAKE THE CHILD AND HIS MOTHER AND ESCAPE TO EGYPT, AND STAY THERE UNTIL I TELL YOU TO LEAVE." JOSEPH GOT UP, TOOK THE CHILD AND HIS MOTHER, AND LEFT DURING THE NIGHT FOR EGYPT, WHERE HE STAYED UNTIL HEROD DIED. THIS WAS DONE TO MAKE WHAT THE LORD HAD SAID THROUGH THE PROPHET COME TRUE, "I CALLED MY SON OUT OF EGYPT." WHEN HEROD REALIZED THAT THE VISITORS FROM THE EAST HAD TRICKED HIM, HE WAS FURIOUS. HE GAVE ORDERS TO KILL ALL THE BOYS IN BETHLEHEM AND ITS NEIGHBOURHOOD WHO WERE TWO YEARS OLD AND YOUNGER - THIS WAS DONE IN ACCORDANCE WITH WHAT HE HAD LEARNED FROM THE VISITORS ABOUT THE TIME WHEN THE STAR HAD APPEARED. IN THIS WAY WHAT THE PROPHET JEREMIAH HAD SAID CAME TRUE: "A SOUND IS HEARD IN RAMAH, THE SOUND OF BITTER WEEPING. RACHEL IS CRYING FOR HER CHILDREN; SHE REFUSES TO BE COMFORTED, FOR THEY ARE DEAD."
(2) Joseph, the Dreamer (Son of Jacob and Rachel) in the old testament of the Holy Bible.
(A) Joseph slept and had two glorious futuristic dream (that compliments each other in meaning) which he shared with his family members when he woke up from sleep and it brought unwavering hatred from his brothers. His father (Jacob, also known as Israel), who had always shown him love more than his other brothers, also became angry at him for having wonderful dreams of great future in his sleep. Sometimes in life the very same close people you expect to be happy for you when you share your achievable high dreams are the same ones that might turn around to hate you for it because of envy or fear of you being above them in life.
According to Genesis 37:1-11
'JACOB CONTINUED TO LIVE IN THE LAND OF CANAAN, WHERE HIS FATHER HAD LIVED, AND THIS IS THE STORY OF JACOB'S FAMILY. JOSEPH, A YOUNG MAN OF SEVENTEEN, TOOK CARE OF THE SHEEP AND GOATS WITH HIS BROTHERS, THE SONS OF BILHAH AND ZILPAH, HIS FATHER'S CONCUBINES. HE BROUGHT BAD REPORTS TO HIS FATHER ABOUT WHAT HIS BROTHERS WERE DOING. JACOB LOVED JOSEPH MORE THAN ALL HIS OTHER SONS, BECAUSE HE HAD BEEN BORN TO HIM WHEN HE WAS OLD. HE MADE A LONG ROBE WITH FULL SLEEVES FOR HIM. WHEN HIS BROTHERS SAW THAT THEIR FATHER LOVED JOSEPH MORE THAN HE LOVED THEM, THEY HATED THEIR BROTHER SO MUCH THAT THEY WOULD NOT SPEAK TO HIM IN A FRIENDLY MANNER. ONE NIGHT JOSEPH HAD A DREAM, AND WHEN HE TOLD HIS BROTHERS ABOUT IT, THEY HATED HIM EVEN MORE. HE SAID, "LISTEN TO THE DREAM I HAD. WE WERE ALL IN THE FIELD TYING UP SHEAVES OF WHEAT, WHEN MY SHEAF GOT UP AND STOOD UP STRAIGHT. YOURS FORMED A CIRCLE ROUND MINE AND BOWED DOWN TO IT." "DO YOU THINK YOU ARE GOING TO BE A KING AND RULE OVER US?" HIS BROTHERS ASKED. SO THEY HATED HIM EVEN MORE BECAUSE OF HIS DREAMS AND BECAUSE OF WHAT HE SAID ABOUT THEM. THEN JOSEPH HAD ANOTHER DREAM AND SAID TO HIS BROTHERS, " I HAD ANOTHER DREAM, IN WHICH I SAW THE SUN, THE MOON, AND ELEVEN STARS BOWING DOWN TO ME." HE ALSO TOLD THE DREAM TO HIS FATHER, AND HIS FATHER SCOLDED HIM: "WHAT KIND OF A DREAM IS THAT? DO YOU THINK THAT YOUR MOTHER, YOUR BROTHERS, AND I ARE GOING TO COME AND BOW DOWN TO YOU?" JOSEPH'S BROTHERS WERE JEALOUS OF HIM, BUT HIS FATHER KEPT THINKING ABOUT THE WHOLE MATTER.'
(B) The reaction of Joseph's blood brothers (in real life) to an ordinary dream that he saw in his sleep was brutal and callous. They almost killed him but ended up selling him into slavery to the Midianites/Ishmaelites. Then they went back to their father Jacob and lied to him that Joseph was eaten/killed by wild animals and their Father mourned deeply for he loved Joseph so much.
NOTE THAT: TWO OF JOSEPH'S BROTHERS LOOKED FOR WAYS TO SAVE HIM BUT THEY ENDED UP BEING ACCOMPLICES FOR A LONG TIME AS THEY AGREED TO LIE TO THEIR FATHER AND OTHERS.
(I) Reuben suggested that instead of killing him, they should throw in a well in the wilderness.
(II)Judah suggested that he should be sold to the Ishmaelites/Midianites.
According to Genesis 37: 20-36
'COME ON NOW, LET'S KILL HIM AND THROW HIS BODY INTO ONE OF THE DRY WELLS. WE CAN SAY THAT A WILD ANIMAL KILLED HIM. THEN WE WILL SEE WHAT BECOMES OF HIS DREAMS." REUBEN HEARD THEM AND TRIED TO SAVE JOSEPH. 'LET'S NOT KILL HIM." HE SAID. "JUST THROW HIM INTO THIS WELL IN THE WILDERNESS, BUT DON'T HURT HIM." HE SAID THIS, PLANNING TO SAVE HIM FROM THEM AND SEND HIM BACK TO HIS FATHER. WHEN JOSEPH CAME UP TO HIS BROTHERS, THEY RIPPED OFF HIS LONG ROBE WITH FULL SLEEVES. THEN THEY TOOK HIM AND THREW HIM INTO THE WELL, WHICH WAS DRY. WHILE THEY WERE EATING, THEY SUDDENLY SAW A GROUP OF ISHMAELITES TRAVELING FROM GILEAD TO EGYPT. THEIR CAMELS WERE LOADED WITH SPICES AND RESINS. JUDAH SAID TO HIS BROTHERS, "WHAT WILL WE GAIN BY KILLING OUR BROTHER AND COVERING UP THE MURDER? LET'S SELL HIM TO THESE ISHMAELITES. THEN WE WON'T HAVE TO HURT HIM; AFTER ALL, HE IS OUR BROTHER, OUR OWN FLESH AND BLOOD." HIS BROTHERS AGREED, AND WHEN SOME MIDIANITE TRADERS CAME BY, THE BROTHERS PULLED JOSEPH OUT OF THE WELL AND SOLD HIM FOR TWENTY PIECES OF SILVER TO ISHMAELITES, WHO TOOK HIM TO EGYPT. WHEN REUBEN CAME BACK TO THE WELL AND FOUND THAT JOSEPH WAS NOT THERE, HE TORE HIS CLOTHES IN SORROW. HE RETURNED TO HIS BROTHERS AND SAID, "THE BOY IS NOT THERE! WHAT AM I GOING TO DO?" THEN THEY KILLED A GOAT AND DIPPED JOSEPH'S ROBE IN ITS BLOOD. THEY TOOK THE ROBE TO THEIR FATHER AND SAID, "WE FOUND THIS. DOES IT BELONG TO YOUR SON?" HE RECOGNIZED IT AND SAID, "YES, IT IS HIS! SOME WILD ANIMAL HAS KILLED HIM. MY SON JOSEPH HAS BEEN TORN TO PIECES!" JACOB TORE HIS CLOTHES IN SORROW AND PUT ON SACKCLOTH. HE MOURNED FOR HIS SON A LONG TIME. ALL HIS SONS AND DAUGHTERS CAME TO COMFORT HIM, BUT HE REFUSED TO BE COMFORTED AND SAID, 'I WILL GO DOWN TO THE WORLD OF THE DEAD STILL MOURNING FOR MY SON." SO HE CONTINUED TO MOURN FOR HIS SON JOSEPH. MEANWHILE, IN EGYPT, THE MIDIANITES HAD SOLD JOSEPH TO POTIPHAR, ONE OF THE KING'S OFFICERS, WHO WAS THE CAPTAIN OF THE PALACE GUARD.'
(C) Joseph (Son of Jacob) while in slavery was blessed by God Almighty and this blessing of his also touched the life of Potiphar (his master) and his household because lived with him and worked for him. He obeyed God's commandments even while in slavery.
According to Genesis 39: 1-6
'NOW THE ISHMAELITES HAD TAKEN JOSEPH TO EGYPT AND SOLD HIM TO POTIPHAR, ONE OF THE KING'S OFFICERS, WHO WAS THE CAPTAIN OF THE PALACE GUARD. THE LORD WAS WITH JOSEPH AND MADE HIM SUCCESSFUL. HE LIVED IN THE HOUSE OF HIS EGYPTIAN MASTER, WHO SAW THAT THE LORD WAS WITH JOSEPH AND HAD MADE HIM SUCCESSFUL IN EVERYTHING HE DID. POTIPHAR WAS PLEASED WITH HIM AND MADE HIM HIS PERSONAL SERVANT; SO HE PUT HIM IN CHARGE OF HIS HOUSE AND EVERYTHING HE OWNED. FROM THEN ON, BECAUSE OF JOSEPH THE LORD BLESSED THE HOUSEHOLD OF THE EGYPTIAN AND EVERYTHING THAT HE HAD IN HIS HOUSE AND IN HIS FIELDS. POTIPHAR HANDED OVER EVERYTHING HE HAD TO THE CARE OF JOSEPH AND DID NOT CONCERN HIMSELF WITH ANYTHING EXCEPT THE FOOD HE ATE. JOSEPH WAS WELL-BUILT AND GOOD-LOOKING.'
(D) His dream came to pass in real life at the age of 30. The Joseph of the old testament (Jacob's son) was also a dream interpreter and a solution giver. His ability to interprete dreams and suggest/give solutions to issues/problems gave him a high position (Governor over all of Egypt, thus, the second in command to the King of Egypt). His elder brothers that betrayed and nearly killed him when he was younger ended up bowing to him as he saw in that his beautiful dream when he was seventeen years of age.
NOTE THAT: Joseph brothers' cruelty to him did not stop God's big plan for him from coming to pass in his life and he became the Governor of all of Egypt in a strange land called Egypt even though he was a Canaanite/an Israelite. So, the long wait while in slavery from 17 years of age till 30 years of age was painful but worth it because God was in it and with him all the way.
According to Genesis 41: 25-46
'JOSEPH SAID TO THE KING, "THE TWO DREAMS MEAN THE SAME THING; GOD HAS TOLD YOU WHAT HE IS GOING TO DO. THE SEVEN FAT COWS ARE SEVEN YEARS, AND THE SEVEN FULL EARS OF CORN ARE ALSO SEVEN YEARS; THEY HAVE THE SAME MEANING. THE SEVEN THIN COWS WHICH CAME UP LATER AND THE SEVEN THIN EARS OF CORN SCORCHED BY THE DESERT WIND ARE SEVEN YEARS OF FAMINE. IT IS JUST AS I TOLD YOU - GOD HAS SHOWN YOU WHAT HE IS GOING TO DO. THERE WILL BE SEVEN YEARS OF GREAT PLENTY IN ALL THE LAND OF EGYPT. AFTER THAT, THERE WILL BE SEVEN YEARS OF FAMINE, AND ALL THE GOOD YEARS WILL BE FORGOTTEN, BECAUSE THE FAMINE WILL RUIN THE COUNTRY. THE TIME OF PLENTY WILL BE ENTIRELY FORGOTTEN, BECAUSE THE FAMINE WHICH FOLLOWS WILL BE SO TERRIBLE. THE REPETITION OF YOUR DREAM MEANS THAT THE MATTER IS FIXED BY GOD AND THAT HE WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN IN THE NEAR FUTURE. "NOW YOU SHOULD CHOOSE SOME MAN WITH WISDOM AND INSIGHT AND PUT HIM IN CHARGE OF THE COUNTRY. YOU MUST ALSO APPOINT OTHER OFFICIALS AND TAKE A FIFTH OF THE CROPS DURING THE SEVEN YEARS OF PLENTY. ORDER THEM TO COLLECT ALL THE FOOD DURING THE GOOD YEARS THAT ARE COMING, AND GIVE THEM AUTHORITY TO STORE UP CORN IN THE CITIES AND GUARD IT. THE FOOD WILL BE A RESERVE SUPPLY FOR THE COUNTRY DURING THE SEVEN YEARS OF FAMINE WHICH ARE GOING TO COME IN EGYPT. IN THIS WAY THE PEOPLE WILL NOT STARVE." THE KING AND HIS OFFICIALS APPROVED THIS PLAN, AND HE SAID TO THEM, "WE WILL NEVER FIND A BETTER MAN THAN JOSEPH, A MAN WHO HAS GOD'S SPIRIT IN HIM." THE KING SAID TO JOSEPH, "GOD HAS SHOWN YOU ALL THIS, SO IT IS OBVIOUS THAT YOU HAVE GREATER WISDOM AND INSIGHT THAN ANYONE ELSE. I WILL PUT YOU IN CHARGE OF MY COUNTRY, AND ALL MY PEOPLE WILL OBEY YOUR ORDERS. YOUR AUTHORITY WILL BE SECOND ONLY TO MINE. I NOW APPOINT YOU GOVERNOR OVER ALL EGYPT." THE KING REMOVED FROM HIS FINGER THE RING ENGRAVED WITH THE ROYAL SEAL AND PUT IT ON JOSEPH'S FINGER. HE PUT A FINE LINEN ROBE ON HIM, AND PLACED A GOLD CHAIN ROUND HIS NECK. HE GAVE HIM SECOND ROYAL CHARIOT TO RIDE IN, AND HIS GUARD OF HONOUR WENT AHEAD OF HIM AND CRIED OUT, "MAKE WAY! MAKE WAY!" AND SO JOSEPH WAS APPOINTED GOVERNOR OVER ALL OF EGYPT. THE KING SAID TO HIM, "I AM THE KING - AND NO ONE IN ALL EGYPT SHALL SO MUCH AS LIFT A HAND OR A FOOT WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION." HE GAVE JOSEPH THE EGYPTIAN NAME ZAPHENATH PANEAH, AND HE GAVE HIM A WIFE, ASENATH, THE DAUGHTER OF POTIPHERA, A PRIEST IN THE CITY OF HELIOPOLIS. JOSEPH WAS 30 YEARS OLD WHEN HE BEGAN TO SERVE THE KING OF EGYPT.'
According to Genesis 42: 1-11
WHEN JACOB LEARNT THAT THERE WAS CORN IN EGYPT, HE SAID TO HIS SONS, "WHY DON'T YOU DO SOMETHING? I HEAR THAT THERE IS CORN IN EGYPT; GO THERE AND BUY SOME TO KEEP US FROM STARVING TO DEATH." SO JOSEPH'S TEN HALF-BROTHERS WENT TO BUY CORN IN EGYPT. BUT JACOB DID NOT SEND JOSEPH'S FULL-BROTHER BENJAMIN WITH THEM, BECAUSE HE WAS AFRAID THAT SOMETHING MIGHT HAPPEN TO HIM. THE SONS OF JACOB CAME WITH OTHERS TO BUY CORN, BECAUSE THERE WAS FAMINE IN THE LAND OF CANAAN. JOSEPH, AS GOVERNOR OF THE LAND OF EGYPT, WAS SELLING CORN TO PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD. SO JOSEPH'S BROTHERS CAME AND BOWED DOWN BEFORE HIM WITH THEIR FACES TO THE GROUND. WHEN JOSEPH SAW HIS BROTHERS, HE RECOGNIZED THEM, BUT HE ACTED AS IF HE DID NOT KNOW THEM. HE ASKED THEM HARSHLY, "WHERE DO YOU COME FROM?" "WE HAVE COME FROM CANAAN TO BUY FOOD," THEY ANSWERED. ALTHOUGH JOSEPH RECOGNIZED HIS BROTHERS, THEY DID NOT RECOGNIZE HIM. HE REMEMBERED THE DREAMS HE HAD DREAMT ABOUT THEM AND SAID, "YOU ARE SPIES; YOU HAVE COME TO FIND OUR WHERE OUT COUNTRY IS WEAK." "NO SIR," THEY ANSWERED. "WE HAVE COME AS YOUR SLAVES, TO BUY FOOD. WE ARE ALL BROTHERS. WE ARE NOT SPIES, SIR, WE ARE HONEST MEN."
